INSIDE OF DEHING-PATKAI RAINFOREST
Forest has its own kind of beauty and the real magic of nature wokes up when we have a safari in the midst of a rainforest.This blog unfolds the enchantic beauty of the one and only Rainforest of Assam named Dehing-Patkai Rainforest situated on the south bank or Brahmaputra river and lies in Dibrugarh and Tisukia District of Assam.

The Dehing- Patkai, one of the 17 wildlife sanctuaries of Assam is a treasure of amazing wild species of plants and animals. This is arguably the only forest in India where habitat of three big cats tiger, leopard and Clouded leopard and three cats- marbled cat, golden cat and leopard cat are found. Besides,many species of animals and birds like Oriental Pied Horn-bill, Great Horn-bill, Emerald Dove, Heart Spotted Woodpecker ( smallest woodpecker found in India),  Hair crested Drongo, Chloropsis, Black Crested Baza, Shrike, Stamped Tail Macaque, Hoolock Gibbon , snake, highly endangered white-winged wood duck,endangered long billed vulture  and endangered plants like Vatica lanceaefolia, Dipterocarpus, etc. are availbale here.
The Dehing- Patkai rainforest is a portion of a total 800 sq. km area of three combined Rainforest namely Joypur, Upper Dehing and Dirak. There is no other forest bigger than this. On 13 June, 2004 111.19 sq.km of this big area has been declared as protected area - the dehing Patkai wildlife sanctuary.
